The decision to work at home can bring incredible freedomand flexibility for an online business owner. As oftenadvertised you really can earn money online anywhere withyour computer and an Internet connection. Tip #1: Your favorite coffee shop may not be the best placeto work on your online business! Think about it. If you area frequent visitor to a local Starbucks or other populargourmet coffee shop then there is a good chance you willrun into someone you know. This may be a good thing if youare hoping to network with others but if you are needing tofocus on your daily tasks then somewhere quieter is likelygoing to be more productive. Choose a low traffic coffeeshop that still caters to all of your online business needs(see the other tips in this article).
Tip #2: Create a "work from the coffee shop kit." Thissounds painfully obvious but I have watched students andbusiness people spend large portions of their coffee shoptime borrowing or even running back home to get the toolsthey should have brought with them. Especially if you aregoing to regularly work away from your home then givingcareful attention to putting together all the tools you mayneed. Your kit could include: your favorite coffee travelmug for environmental friendliness; your laptop (ofcourse); a USB mouse if you don't like using the mouse onyour laptop or notebook; a headset; notebook and pen forwhen the computer battery runs low or just to jot down somequick notes; some facial tissues and cold remedies; andwhatever is needed for you to connect to the Internet. Youcan often find laptop carry cases that are already equippedwith a variety of accessories and you just need to add thepersonal items.
Tip #3: Choose a space that compensates for your work habitchallenges. Many online business owners working from thecoffee shop do not realize how much time they waste justfrom counterproductive work habits. For some this meanssitting at a different table each session while others mayneed to seek the comfort of routine. If you are distractedby movement of people around you then choose a spot awayfrom the doors and service counter. I personally workbetter sitting in a comfortable armchair with a coffeetable for my laptop but you may be more productive withyour online business activities sitting on a hard chair. Ifyou are self-conscious about people you know seeing youconducting online business work from the coffee shop thenyou need to find a location you are comfortable with andfeel inconspicuous or you might as well go back to work athome. Of course if you need an Internet connection thensome times you may need to compromise on location to beonline.
The freedom to work from the coffee shop or any place thatis away from the traditional or home office is wonderfulbut to use the time productively can require somepreparation, attention to location and personal workhabits. Finding a good location for you to work on youronline business may be an important ingredient for success.
